Cube is an open source multiplayer and singleplayer first person shooter game built on an entirely new and very unconventional engine. Cube is a landscape-style engine that pretends to be an indoor FPS engine, which combines very high precision dynamic occlusion culling with a form of geometric mipmapping on the whole world for dynamic LOD for configurable fps & graphic detail on most machines. Uses OpenGL & SDL.

linksArmagetron
"A Tron clone in 3D"
This has been the tagline of Armagetron, since, well, a very long time, and is probably the shortest and most accurate description possible. Tron was an arcade game based on the movie of the same name, release by Disney in 1982. The original game consisted of 4 sub-games, the only one of concern is the 'Light Cycles' one, in which the player uses a left/right joystick to control a 'Light Cycle' which leaves a wall behind it wherever the cycle it goes, turning only at 90 degree angles. The player must then get the AI to crash into their wall while avoiding hitting the AI's own wall themselves. Those were the humble beginnings of Armagetron Advanced's game play, which has now blossomed into 16 player mayhem, with highly advanced AI, network game play, and of course all in a 3D environment.

linkBZFlag 2.0.8

Tanked. Massively multiplayer networked tank-shooting game plays like a cross between 'Battlezone' and 'Tank Battle'. Players drive around an arena and blast other enemy tanks. The 3D is much enhanced from BattleZone in terms of looks and gamplay (features a multi-tiered battle arena). Here the tanks can jump. Tanks can enhance armaments or gain new fighting abilities by capturing 'power-up' flags littered around the playing field. Simple premise that rapidly becomes addicitive. Good fun.
Version 2.0.8:
- Added a plugin to record matches - Jeff Myers.
- Added an option to send out a UDP heartbeat message for observers behind flakey routers - Jeff Myers
- Replaced admin message sound - Sean Morrison
- Client and server now close http connections correctly - Daniel Remenak
- Fixed crash when rogue autopilot picks up a team flag - Daniel Remenak
- Fixed spawnpoint selection regression - Sean Morrison

hereScorched 3D

Scorched 3D is a game based loosely (or actually quite heavily now) on the classic DOS game Scorched Earth "The Mother Of All Games". Scorched 3D adds amongst other new features a 3D island environment and LAN and internet play. Scorched 3D is totally free and is available for both Microsoft Windows and Unix (Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Solaris etc.) operating systems.
You can pick up the game and begin playing very quickly. Then, when/if you are interested, you can poke in the dimmer recesses of the game and get into the strategy (or just ignore it altogether!).
At its lowest level, Scorched 3D is just an artillery game with two+ tanks taking turns to destroy opponents in an arena. Choose the angle, direction and power of each shot, launch your weapon, and try to blow up other tanks. That's basically it.
But Scorched 3D can be a lot more complex than that, if you want it to be. You can earn money from successful battles and use it to invest in additional weapons and accessories. You can play with up to twenty four other players at a time, mixing computer players with humans. There's a variety of changing environmental conditions and terrains to be dealt with. After the end of each round (which ends when everybody dies or there's only one person left), you get to buy stuff using the prize money you won from previous matches.

Krank

I’ve received some emails asking for another game to pass the time. I think I found it.
Krank is a game that is very simple, but fun and visually pleasing. I totally got lost in the colors and movement. (It may have been because I was listening to Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix the first time I played it.
My one complaint is that there are no instructions and no documentation anywhere I could find. Because of that, here is the best description I can offer.
Basically, as you move your mouse, the little caterpillar-ish thing follows your cursor. On each level, you will see some random orbs. When you bump into one, it will move it in that direction. The purpose of the game is to direct the random orbs into the stationary orbs. Once two get attached, it blows up and you go to the next level.
Alright, that wasn’t real clear…but it was more than I had to start. It’s enough to get you started.

In the game you can inject plasma fluid into the environment, create a vacuum from your paddle, and blast shockwaves into the playing area. All these abilities have fluid-based kinetic effects on the ball, making Plasma Pong a fast-paced and exciting game.
If you have a big screen and some nice speakers, you could really get lost in this game.
